The girls traveled to Caronport for the 1A Girls Region D Regional Championship.
The Mohawks kicked off the tournament in dominating fashion as they blitzed the hometown Cougars 8-0 to qualify for the final.
In the final the Mohawks ran into a tough Muenster Cougar team, who enjoyed an easy win of their own as they blasted the Moosomin Marquis 6-0.
The two teams battled in a hard fought contest as neither team managed to claim victory through the end of regulation time.
In the extra time session the two teams continued to battle in a deadlock as neither team managed to emerge victorious sending the game to a five round shootout.
In the shootout it was the Mohawks who managed to claim victory as they ran off the field with a 2-1 win and the Region D Championship.
With the win the Mohawks earned a berth in the 1A Girls Provincial Championship, which runs Oct. 28-29 in North Battleford.
The Mohawks will be joined at the championship by local teams from Muenster, Lake Lenore and Middle Lake.
The senior boys, meanwhile, hosted the 2A Boys Region C Regional Championships on Oct. 22.
The tournament was a four-team single elimination tournament featuring the Yorkton Sacred Heart Saints, the Lake Lenore Lancers, the Warman Wolverines and the hometown, Humboldt Mohawks.
The Mohawks were hosting the boys tournament for the first time since 2012 when they hosted the 2A Boys Region D Regional Championship.
Despite the cool weather and the fog to start the morning Mohawks Senior Boys Coach and tournament organizer, Kaitlin Prokosch, was really pleased with how the day went.
“The teams all played very well. It was good competition that’s for sure.â€
The Mohawks were awarded the hosting duties for the tournament because it was Horizon Central’s turn to host the tournament, leaving Lake Lenore and Humboldt as the only options and with Lake Lenore having hosted more recently Prokosch said she stepped up.
“I just kind of felt like it was our turn to do it and it was my very first time hosting the tournament at all so I figured I might as well get that one under my belt.â€
The Mohawks had a tough draw as they drew the Yorkton Sacred Heart Saints in the opening round.
The Saints were a real solid team and put on a great display as the Mohawks could not keep pace dropping a 7-1 decision to the eventual champions, who blew out the competition 14-1 in their two wins.
With the loss the Mohawks season came to an end.
Prokosch would like to thank everyone who helped during the day.
“It definitely helped make the day go smoothly with those parent volunteers at the table and such a great ref… and having him there with those lines people he had, it was just excellent and those guys were such good sports and it was awesome.â€
