Humboldt Broncos lose quarter-finals in overtime

HUMBOLDT — With an overtime goal, the Estevan Bruins have defeated the Humboldt Broncos 3-2 and won the quarter-finals

The Bruins came out strong in the first period and had several chances to score in the first few minutes. Will Koop scored 7:40 into the first period to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead, and 19 seconds later, Eddie Gallagher tallied to double the advantage.

The Broncos had the lone power play of the first period a few minutes later, but couldn't convert. Estevan had a chance to extend the lead late in the frame, but Humboldt goaltender Rayce Ramsay stopped Bruin forward Michael McChesney on a breakaway.

In the second period the Broncos' Josh Patrician scored 86 seconds into the middle frame to cut the advantage in half. Thirty-one seconds later, Reagan Poncelet scored to tie the game. Both teams had chances to score after that, but neither could convert. The Bruins had a power play late in the second.

None of the teams scored in the third period, forcing the game into overtime. Almost five minutes into the first overtime period, TJ Irey of the Bruins made the winning shot.

Rayce Ramsey of the Humboldt Broncos stoped 36 of out 39 shots, while Grant Boldt stopped 27 out of 29
