After Kaleb Dahlgren announced his commitment to York University, the Humboldt Broncos will be seeing another of their former players lacing it up in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) action, after Bryce Fiske announced his commitment to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) Ridgebacks beginning in the fall.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited, obviously, it鈥檚 been my goal (playing university hockey) since day one of training camp when I was 17鈥 I鈥檓 excited to see where the future takes me,鈥 said Fiske in a press release.

Fiske joins the Ridgebacks after playing four seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), where he recorded 19 goals, 64 assists, 83 points, and 399 penalty minutes in 216 regular season contests.

Despite Fiske鈥檚 four year SJHL career, the 20-year-old La Ronge native only appeared in 16 playoff games registering two goals, 11 assists, 13 points, and 30 penalty minutes.

鈥淚鈥檝e been fortunate to see him play four times this year and Bryce is just a winner,鈥 said Ridgeback head coach Curtis Hodgins in a press release.

鈥淗e plays the game hard, but at the same time has a great skill set, can really skate and is mobile. He plays the power play and can kill penalties, so I really like his versatility, but the biggest thing is I just think he鈥檚 a winner.鈥

Not only is Fiske a winner, but he will also quickly become a fan favourite amongst Ridgebacks fans, for his entertaining style of play.

鈥淚 like to throw the body around and I鈥檓 pretty physical,鈥 said Fiske. 鈥淚 like to move the puck and skate the puck a lot. You鈥檒l see me all over the place, as I like to play both ends of the ice.鈥

Of course, Fiske being a right-handed defenseman was also a boost to the Ridgebacks who were in search of balancing out their blueline prior to the start of the season.

Fiske recently touched down in Oshawa, where he got his first taste of campus life.

Being a kid from small-town Saskatchewan, Fiske says Oshawa will take a little getting used to.

鈥淲hen I flew in (June 4) it was a bit of a shock, but I鈥檒l adjust and I鈥檓 excited and happy to be here.鈥

With the season quickly approaching Fiske will continue to work hard to be ready to join the Ridgebacks on the ice and the Faculty of Business and Information Technology off of it.

Fiske will have some familiar faces joining him at UOIT in the fall, as former Nipawin Hawks forward Brett Harasymuk also recently committed to playing with the Ridgebacks.
