Broncos' point streak snapped at seven

Bad bounces, and turnovers sunk the Humboldt Broncos as they hit three posts and gave up three goals in a 3:41 stretch in the third period to lose 4-2 to the La Ronge Ice Wolves in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from Humboldt on Nov. 15, snapping a streak of seven straight games with at least a point.

The game got off to a great start for the Broncos as they outshot the Ice Wolves early, but a Bryce Fiske penalty turned momentum as the Ice Wolves outshot the green and gold 8-1 during the rest of the period.           

The Ice Wolves’ pressure in the second half of the period paid off as they scored the first goal of the game off the stick of Nolan Dawson to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.           

The Broncos responded in the second, outshooting the Ice Wolves 13-8 and managed the period’s only goal, as Layne Matechuk scored his third goal of the season, and third in three games to tie the score at one.           

The game remained tied into the third when some sloppy play sunk the Broncos.           

The Ice Wolves scored three times in 3:41 thanks to turnovers and poor coverage, to pull ahead 4-1.           

Conner Lukan cut the Broncos’ deficit to 4-2 with his fifth goal of the season but they could not get any closer as they fell 4-2.           

Jacob Wassermann was charged with the loss in the Broncos goal, allowing four goals on 24 shots as the Broncos outshot the Ice Wolves 32-24.
