After two years of making it to the provincial finals and losing, Team Silvernagle is aiming to win it all in Humboldt.
鈥淚n the last two years we鈥檝e been the most consistent team and had a really good week and just didn鈥檛 tie it up in the finals,鈥 said Kara Thevenot, Team Silvernagle鈥檚 lead. 鈥淲e鈥檙e going to ramp it up and get in first.鈥
At last year鈥檚 finals in Melfort, they faced off against Team Anderson, who had earned the spot after winning the semi-finals. Team Anderson won that game 鈥 and the semi-final before that 鈥 with an extra end.
This year, the team is made up of skip Robyn Silvernagle from North Battleford; lead Thevenot, who was raised in Birch Hills; second Jessie Hunkin from Stony Plain, Alta.; and third Stefanie Lawton from Shellbrook. Their coach is Lesley McEwan from Spruce Grove, Alta.
They are based out of the North Battleford Curling Club.
鈥淭he only originals from the last couple of years is Robyn and I,鈥 Thevenot said.
Lawton, a four-time provincial champion, was recruited by the team when she was finished with her commitments to her previous team.
鈥淲e look to use her experience. It鈥檚 a good quality to have,鈥 Thevenot said.
Hunkin had spared for the team last year at an event in Lloydminster and was invited to join on a permanent basis this year.
Right now, Team Silvernagle is the highest ranked Saskatchewan women鈥檚 team and eighth nationally on the Canadian Team Ranking System.
鈥淲e had a great tour season and we鈥檙e just looking to carry that momentum forward,鈥 Thevenot said.
The team were the winners of the Women鈥檚 Curling Tour stop in Humboldt held Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. Based on what they saw during that event, the team is expecting good things at the provincials
鈥淲e鈥檙e just looking forward to a good, fun atmosphere and some good curling,鈥 Thevenot said.
While out on the ice at the provincial event, the team isn鈥檛 expecting to change its strategy too much.
鈥淛ust to play our game that we鈥檝e been playing all year,鈥 Thevenot said.
That means making lots of shots and having lots of fun while doing it.
