TISDALE β Over the month of May the Tisdale RCMP responded to two separate instances of children reporting to their school that they were assaulted at home.
The first instance on May 12 had the child report to the school that they were being assaulted at home and contemplating suicide. The second, on May 19, resulted in an arrest.
βTisdale is not seeing an increase. Unfortunately the numbers are staying the same across the last two years and have decreased from the 2019 stats,β said Sgt. Wanita Minty, detachment commander.
βChildren are in a vulnerable state as they rely on caregivers to provide support, safety and protection. When those caregivers suddenly become offenders the child needs to find a way to report, to get help.β
Minty encourages children who are in an abusive situation to find another adult they can trust. During school months she said staff can be an option, outside of school months she advised the Kids Help Phone or the RCMP emergency line at 911.
βItβs the fastest way to get help when you are feeling scared and unsafe,β she said.Β βFamily and friends of those children can also report to Social Services any concerns that they see or hear for a child who may be in danger.β
