TISDALE — Tisdale council has unanimously passed a mutual aid agreement with the RM of Barrier Valley to assist them with their firefighting services as required.

In the event that RM of Barrier Valley Fire Department isn’t equipped to handle a call, this will mean the Tisdale Fire Department will lend their assistance.

Brad Hvidston, the town’s administrator, said the two departments have already been working together on an unofficial basis, as the Tisdale department has their own hydraulic rescue tools while the RM doesn’t.

“We haven’t gone there to fight any fires, I don’t think, but we have been there for three different accident scenes,” Hvidston said. “There was a vehicle rollover, there was a skidoo accident, and then there was that plane crash where our fire department went and assisted.”

Hydraulic rescue tools, otherwise known as “jaws of life,” are typically used by departments in vehicle rescues to break open a car door or gain access to an area.

“This was requested by the RM of Barrier Valley, so we just thought to be good neighbours and good partners we’d oblige and come up with a partnership agreement.”
