HUMBOLDT — Landmark Place will not be paved after a majority of affected property owners petitioned against the improvement.

The estimated $114,700 plus PST project would have been paid by the property owners through a process known as a local improvement.

If 50 per cent of the property owners are against the project and if they would pay more than 50 per cent of the cost of the paving, the local improvement fails.

Eleven valid petitions opposing the project were filed, representing 64.7 per cent of the property owners. Those owners would have paid for 70 per cent of the project.

The project cannot be tried again for at least 12 months.

The city proposed the project after being approached by several residents requesting asphalt in the area.
