EAST CENTRAL — As of March 18, six classrooms within the Horizon School Division are closed and have shifted to temporary online learning following students getting sick with COVID-19 in the classes.
According to Kevin Garinger, the division’s director of education, there have been no fatalities among the student body.
“We’ve very grateful it hasn’t impacted us in that way, which we’re super grateful for,” Garinger said. “I think we can all agree that’s a huge blessing.”
Educational instruction is continuing to take place over virtual means for the affected classes until it is safe to return to in-person learning.
For schools not heavily impacted by COVID-19, Garinger said extracurricular activities can open up within schools following the provincial guidelines. The groups are restricted from participating with other schools.
“Those that are hit, we’re saying we want to press pause on opening that up.”
