It was the most important decision that Logan Boulet made in his 21 years of life and he made it only a month before the April 6 bus crash that would claim his life.
Thanks to his registration as an organ donor on his 21st birthday, Logan saved six lives after the crash while the story of his donation caused thousands more to register as organ donors within North America; a phenomenon that has recently been deemed the Logan Boulet Effect.
Because of his actions and the lives that he has saved, Logan was posthumously awarded the Dawne Switenky Memorial Foundation Angel鈥檚 Legacy Project Humanitarian Award at a ceremony in Humboldt on Aug. 23.
The award will also carry his name in the future.
Logan鈥檚 parents, Toby and Bernie Boulet, were honoured to accept the award on their son鈥檚 behalf.
Logan鈥檚 dad, Toby, spoke not only about his son and his legacy but of all 29 people who were on the bus and how no one is done their story. Numerous foundations have been set up to remember the people lost and 13 people are continuing on with their lives.
Toby said that they know in their hearts all 15 other people on the bus would have made the same decision to donate their organs if they would have been able.
鈥淚t鈥檚 important that I say that today and we know that. We鈥檙e so appreciative the families came to hear us say that,鈥� said Toby.
Terry Switenky presented the award to Toby and Bernie noting the impact that Logan has had since his death.
鈥淭here is now an accelerated awareness and interest in organ donor programs and the importance of saving lives across North America鈥ogan will always be our MVP and his name will be synonymous with the Angel鈥檚 Legacy Project.鈥�
Logan was a true team leader, recalls former Humboldt Broncos president Kevin Garinger.
鈥淚鈥檓 incredibly proud to have known Logan and we are forever grateful to have had him as a member of our Humboldt Broncos family.鈥�
Logan, Toby, and Bernie are the epitome of 鈥楬umboldt Strong,鈥� says Garinger.
Following the ceremony, four CF Snowbirds did a special fly over Humboldt, with one pass being in the shape of a heart. The fly over was not just for Logan, said Toby, but was for the entire community of Humboldt.
鈥淓veryone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all overcometh the world,鈥� wrote R.J. Palacio, who was quoted by Toby during Connor Lukan鈥檚 celebration of life as well as Logan鈥檚 godfather during his celebration.
To add to this, everyone deserves a Snowbirds flyby, said Toby.
