CARROT RIVER — Dylan Borody has been appointed Carrot River’s acting mayor by a unanimous vote of council, following Dennis Letendre’s departure from the role.

Borody, who was first elected as councillor in 2018, will serve as mayor until a new one is elected through a byelection.

Council set the date for the byelection to be held on May 12.

The call for nominations will open March 25 at 9 a.m. and close on April 7 at 4 p.m. Any interested applicants can fill out a form at the town office.

In an interview with the East Central Recorder, Borody said he intends to put his name in.

“We do have some big tasks ahead of us, getting the water treatment plant running this spring and summer as well as getting the repavement on Main Street,” he said.

“Towards the end of the term we’ll be looking at a new school in Carrot River. A couple big projects coming up for sure while trying to maintain financial responsibility.”

The town stated that they are prepared to conduct the election through following public health orders with more information becoming available in the coming days.
