CARROT RIVER — Carrot River’s mayor Dennis Letendre has formally resigned from his position, citing health concerns.

Letendre served on council from 2016 to 2020 before being elected as mayor this past November.

He won the November election in what the town called “the best” turnout in 20 years with 348 ballots. Letendre was elected through 153 votes.

“I genuinely enjoyed my time as mayor and formerly councillor for the Town of Carrot River,” Letendre said through a news release, announcing his departure. “I am grateful I was able to represent the people of my community for numerous years, and I am proud of the progress we made and the progress yet to come.”

The Municipalities Act states that a byelection must be held within six months of the resignation.

An interim mayor is expected to be appointed at the next council meeting on March 23. They will serve until a new mayor is elected through a municipal byelection.
