Man dies in collision with elk

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was declared deceased by EMS at the scene.

GRONLID - On May 29 at approximately 11 p.m., Melfort RCMP received a report of a serious wildlife-related collision on Highway 6 near Gronlid.

Officers immediately responded, along with local fire and EMS services.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as an 18-year-old male from Kinistino. His family has been notified.

Investigation determined the vehicle struck an elk.

Highway 6 was closed for approximately two hours during the initial response to the collision.
