Special Teddy Bear Clinic for community’s stuffies

Over 500 kids and families joined 35 groups at the Teddy Bear Clinic, focusing this year on communication skills.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — Central Park, next to the North Battleford Public Library, came alive with 35 agencies hosting about 500 participants for the annual Teddy Bear Clinic May 30.

This year, the theme was Communication. This was not only aimed at educating toddlers and young children about effective communication techniques but also provided valuable insights for parents on how to engage and communicate more effectively with their little ones.

Children were invited to participate by bringing along their beloved stuffed animals for a fun and informative check-up experience. For those who may not have had a stuffed toy of their own, the event organizers provided a variety of plush companions to ensure that every child could partake in the festivities.

This year, Holm Raiche Oberg Accounting (HRO) sponsored a petting zoo, allowing children to interact and bond with gentle, friendly animals. Alongside HRO’s contribution, organizations such as Crime Stoppers from Regina and the Child Advocate office from Saskatoon participated.

The Teddy Bear Clinic has a rich history, having been established and celebrated annually for 30 years. The event is entirely donation-based, relying on the generosity of the community to continue its important work.

“We work with a lot of kids who don’t have the skill to communicate, so we also want to teach people how to communicate through non-verbal skills,” says Colleen Sabraw, executive director of the Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program.
