Blast from the Past: Buena Vista Lodge in Kerrobert opens

The new lodge was furnished with 28 special care beds, kitchen, lounge and craft room.

50 years ago

The Wilkie branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Auxiliary each contributed additional $1,000 cheques to the Wilkie Artificial Ice Society.

In the running for Tramping Lake Regional Park Queen were Delphine Sharp and Mary Ann Kohlman of Kerrobert and Brenda Schraeder of Handel.

Charles Schille of Wilkie won his weight division at a boxing tournament in Neilburg. Also attending from Wilkie were Edward Jaindl and Bob Reiniger.

The 1975 executive of Unity Tennis Club was comprised of Jim Gordon, Alec Gilbert, Nancy Routly, Carol Waugh and Fred Beatty.

MP Dr. McIsaac officiated at the grand opening of the Buena Vista Lodge in Kerrobert. The lodge held 28 special care beds along with supporting rooms such as a kitchen, lounge and craft room.

The Unity Ministerial Society held a Good News Day. Jars were put in various locations around town and, if you caught someone being negative or grumpy, you could fine them and ask them to put a quarter in the jar.

A Wilkie landmark disappeared when the old Wilkie Lumber Building, more recently used for school bus storage, was torn down.

Thomas Kobelsky was named Student of the Year at the Wilkie Karate Club’s annual awards presentation.

Sports fields in Unity were busy with 131 children in the Unity Soccer Club and 141 registered for minor ball.

The Unity Legion’s VE-Day celebrations were a quiet affair with a banquet for veterans and widows but no formal program.
