RCMP across Saskatchewan took part last Wednesday and Thursday in ‘Operation Hang Up, Buckle Up’, a coordinated traffic blitz targeting motorists using cellphones or failing to wear seatbelts. The most intensive effort in the province was in Yorkton, where Yorkton/Broadview Regional Traffic Services and the Multi-Agency Seatbelt Team (MAST) staged lookouts at sites around the city, pulling over any drivers showing safety violations. Over the two days of the operation, Traffic Services issued tickets for 69 seatbelt violations and 20 instances of cellphone use, among dozens of other charges.Staff Photo by Chris Putnam
