Sophie Pitman (second from left) of Battleford joined performers from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Beach, Elrose, La Ronge and Regina in a performance by Saskatchewan Express at St. Vital Catholic School Monday, then led a question and answer session afterwards. It turns out her favourite colour is green! St. Vital students also wondered what schools the performers went to, what their favourite sports and school subjects were and how long it took to learn the words and music to their songs. Pitman joined Saskatchewan Express this past September. Having moved from Swindon, England more than eight years ago with her family, Pitman was involved in arts and music throughout her school years at St. Vital Catholic School and at John Paul II Collegiate and took part in the Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival. In 2013, she was one of 16 individuals and one choir recommended to move on to provincial competition. She was recommended for Senior Musical Theatre Ballad Female. Along with singing, Sophie also plays the clarinet. Saskatchewan Express was founded in 1980 by Carol Gay Bell who is the General Manager/Artistic Director of the group. It was the outcome of a successful touring show of Saskatchewan performers held in 1967 to celebrate Canada’s 100th birthday. Saskatchewan Express is supported primarily by Saskatchewan Arts Board and SaskCulture through the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund.Photos by Jayne Foster
