W/Pix Lora Stockton 1924 - 2013 Lora Pauline Stockton (nee Johnson), late of Estevan, Saskatchewan passed away on December 23, 2013. Lora was born on August 19, 1924 on a farm in Iowa. The youngest child of a family of three, she is predeceased by her parents, Judge William Johnson and Beulah Johnson, her sister Ruth Crabb and brother Warren Johnson. When Lora was six weeks old she moved with her family to Independence, Iowa where she was raised, attended school, attended the Methodist Church and eventually held her first job at the Independence Telephone Company. Lora married Ken Lacy in 1957 in the "Little Brown Church in the Vale" and moved to Allison, Iowa. They retired to Mesa, Arizona in 1971 and were together for nearly 25 years until Ken's passing in 1981 after a long illness through which Lora nursed him. In time Lora met Ross Stockton, a farmer from Wordsworth in southeast Saskatchewan, Canada. When they first married they lived together in Mesa returning to Canada for the summers until selling the farm and moving to Estevan, Saskatchewan. This was Ross' first marriage and it showed in the great care and treatment he showed Lora. Their 15 years together until Ross' death in November of 2000 were happy ones. He left Lora comfortable and settled in their new home in Rosewood Estates. There she continued to live, until the last couple of years of her life, with her usual humour and spirit, trying to see the best in life and others, to forgive and to love, despite health difficulties and the admission that "the old grey mare she ain't what she used to be". Lora spent the last two years of her life in long term care where she received the best of care. Lora is survived by her son, Terry Lacy, presently of Crosby, North Dakota who devoted himself to Lora's care in the last few years of her life, her stepchildren, Karolyn Lacy Allen and Paul J. Lacy, six grandchildren, Daniel Weber, Kristen O'Brinsky, Heather Weber, Mike Weber, Ken Lacy and Shaw Lacy, 8 great grandchildren and two cousins, Wanda (Gordon) Goins of Independence, Iowa and BG Frank (Mariann) Baker of St. Louis, Missouri. It was Lora's wish to be cremated and buried at West Carlyle Cemetery beside her late husband, Ross. In accordance with her wishes a graveside service will be held in the spring to accommodate all those wishing to pay their respects. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Estevan.
