Sobey’s gave a large donation to the Battlefords and District Food Bank Oct. 2, as part of their “Christmas in July” fundraiser. For the fundraiser, patrons had the option of buying paper soup pots to put on the wall, and a total of $3,200 was raised this way. About $1,000 of this was raised single-handedly, by 15-year-old Marizella Salag.
The $3,200 raised was the fourth-largest amount for a Sobey’s of its size in the country, which led Sobey’s Canada to contribute an additional $750. Sobey’s regularly donates its bakery items to the food bank, and hopes to turn its “Christmas in July” fundraiser into a regular event.
