March 8 marked International Women’s Day all around the world, celebrating women’s equality and paying tribute their economic, political and social achievements. To mark the occasion locally, BTC Indian Health Services and Battlefords Family Health Centre held an open house entitled The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum. There were numerous displays at the event, held in the main foyer and basement of BTC Indian Health Building in North Battleford. Among them were displays promoting various agencies and subjects such as tobacco reduction, health promotion and healthy living, the Battlefords Sexual Assault Centre, the Battlefords Early Intervention Program, Circle of Learning, HIV/AIDS, the CUPlex, and other initiatives and activities. Speakers at the event included Janice Kennedy (pictured) who spoke on the Women’s Health Study, as well as from Ursula Swindler and nurse practitioner Chris Arcand.Photos by John Cairns
