A first place ribbon in the non-commercial category of the North Battleford 100th anniversary Northwest Territorial Days Parade was a pleasant and welcome surprise for Prairie Employment Program summer students Sarah Leitner (right) and Zack Startup (centre). Born, raised and educated in the Battlefords, Leitner and Startup are pursuing university programs to become elementary or secondary school teachers. They were employed this summer as assistant job counsellors with Prairie Employment and, as part of their summer work experience, designed and helped to build this year’s award winning parade entry.
