YORKTON – The Yorkton Navy League Cadets hosted a trade show this weekend to raise funds for new uniforms and the upkeep of their boathouse at York Lake.
The event featured approximately 15 vendors selling a variety of goods, including crafts, beauty products, home essentials and baked goods.
A unique fundraising effort—dubbed "Save or Shave"—gave attendees the opportunity to donate toward either saving or shaving the hair of Commanding Officer Nikita Horvey.
"I'm alright with this," Horvey said with a laugh, in an interview with Â鶹ÊÓƵ.ca.
"I came to terms with this a long time ago. I don't care either way," added Horvey.
At the time of the interview, the donations heavily favoured a shave, with $212 contributed toward cutting it all off, compared to just $10 in favour of keeping it intact.
Funds raised from the initiative will be used to purchase new uniforms for the cadets.
The Navy League program, designed for youth aged 9 to 12, focuses on naval and maritime history, as well as activities like sailing and canoeing. The cadets will hold their annual ceremonial review on May 5.
The program runs through the school year, and those interested in joining can find more information on Facebook under Yorkton Navy League.
