YORKTON — Suncrest College is celebrating Inside Innovation Week by highlighting groundbreaking research and collaboration through its Centre for Applied Research and Innovation at Suncrest (CARIS).
CARIS works with local businesses, organizations and communities to address real-world challenges, drive economic growth and create lasting social impact.
“Inside Innovation is an opportunity to recognize the vital role applied research plays in generating economic activity in our province,” said Kami DePape, vice-president of partnerships and innovation at Suncrest College.
“At Suncrest, we’re not just observing innovation — we’re actively engaged in it," added DePape.
CARIS includes several divisions, each contributing to the college’s research landscape:
- Research Farm: A living laboratory for hands-on agricultural research in sustainability, precision farming and agri-tech.
- Other ag initiatives: Exploring soil health, new crop varieties and cutting-edge farming practices.
- Social Innovation: Partnering with communities to develop evidence-based solutions for complex social issues.
- Innovation Hub: A space where entrepreneurs, startups and faculty collaborate to test ideas and launch new innovations.
- Experiential Learning: Providing students with applied research experience to bridge classroom learning with real-world applications.
To mark Inside Innovation Week, CARIS is hosting the Bright Minds Showcase, featuring applied research projects shaping Saskatchewan’s future.
Bright Minds Showcase will be in Yorkton May 26, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Suncrest College Trades & Technology Centre and in Melfort May 28, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Suncrest College Melfort Campus.
