YORKTON — The Yorkton Lions Club traded their usual pancake spatulas for barbecue tongs, serving up burgers at Dr. Brass School the afternoon of June 5.

For years, the Lions have been a fixture at the school, traditionally hosting a pancake breakfast. But this time, staff and students were treated to a different menu as they marked the end of the school year.

"Traditionally the Lions come in and they support us with a pancake breakfast but this year we're doing something a little special," said Principal Noel Budz, "we're offering hamburgers to our students, staff and families to come and join the Lions and our school in ending the year here in a positive way."

The Lions Club has supported Dr. Brass School’s breakfast program for more than 20 years, ensuring students have access to a nutritious start to their day.

"It's so important to our school," said Budz, adding, "they provide us with a lot of opportunities for our children that maybe need some opportunities. It's just nice to have the Lions as a part of our school."

With 300 burgers ready for the grill, Budz said the goal was simple: to bring families together.

"We're just hoping our families can come and enjoy it and enjoy the day," he said.

Looking at the larger picture, Budz said the Lions Club is part of a broader network of community groups dedicated to supporting local schools.

"Without organizations like the Lions and other groups that we have in our city that support schools and our children in all of our schools—it's heartwarming and overwhelming," said Budz.
