Head of the Heard is a rock band that calls Vancouver home. Their sophomore album "By This Time Tomorrow" is a solid one. There are not many weak points if at all in this album. "By This Time Tomorrow" gets some help on the album from Mother Mother, vocalist Jasmine Parkin. But Head of the Heard stands on their own, the vocals are solid, the lyrics work and the overall sound of the album doesn't disappoint.

The songs Parkin lends her vocals to are two of the better songs on the album. She appears on the title track 'By This Time Tomorrow' which is a good song on the album. The lead single from the album 'Ain't My Day' is a catchy song that doesn't do anything wrong. But perhaps my favourite song on the entire album is 'Don't Think You Will' again Jasmine Parkin shows up on this track and she really compliments the song well.

This album is definitely worth checking out. It is not going to be the best album you have ever listened too, but it surely will not be the worst you have heard either. It is going to fall somewhere in the middle it is a good not great album. Which isn't a bad thing; there are a lot of albums out there that are a lot worse than "By This Time Tomorrow". It is an album that has a few songs that are really good and that alone is worth having it in your collection.

Ollie Vee
"Lonesome Girl"
Independent
5-out-of-10

This week the band Ollie Vee and their debut album "Lonesome Girl" made it to the top my new music pile. Ollie Vee is a Canadian band that comes out of Seagrave, Ontario. After listening to "Lonesome Girl" you quickly realize that this album is inspired by 50's rock 'n' roll. This album would not have been out of place in a jukebox in a 1950's malt shop. Unfortunately we are not in the 50's anymore and this album just didn't cut it for me. I just wasn't feeling the sound of the album; it didn't really hit any of the genres I like to listen too.

Even though this album wasn't part of any genres I like, doesn't mean the album is bad. I did enjoy the lyrics on some songs. 'Bruised' is one of those songs. The lyrics were good and it was sung well. The title track of the album 'Lonesome Girl' is another song that is performed well on the album.

Ollie Vee would have been right at home 60 years in the music world. However for me there wasn't much about the band that makes me want to listen to them today. I appreciate what Ollie Vee was trying to do and they succeeded in bringing back the 1950's sound in their music. I am not sure if that really needed to be done, but Ollie Vee did it. So if you like rock 'n' roll from the 1950's then this album if for you, it's just not for me.
