Canora resident questions government record on stubble burning, smoking

I received my monthly statements on April 26, and included was a request by Sask Power to purchase tickets to a prize-winning raffle which would help them give us clean air to breathe in our community.

Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý I received my monthly statements on April 26, and included was a request by Sask Power to purchase tickets to a prize-winning raffle which would help them give us clean air to breathe in our community.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Since 1952 I have had to make sure that I have clean air to breathe to retain and/or even improve the condition of my lungs.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý From 2001 to 2012, I was in continuous contact with the Saskatchewan Lung Association and Dr. Frank Scott to stop the burning of stubble for days, in the fall and spring each year.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý What did I accomplish? Zero. Today we still have stubble burning. During this time, I could not have a window open for a good night’s sleep.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý How different is the effort of the Saskatchewan government when compared with the government of Canada, so that we could have clean air to breathe?

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý For how many years has the government of Canada played around with the matter of health damage to the tobacco smokers, while at the same time spending billions of dollars to help the health system of Canada help cure the tobacco smokers’ problems?

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý For how many more years are we going to suffer with, and from, this stubble burning smoke?

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Today Sask Power is asking me to fund a program, which it says, will help it to give us and our community clean air. What is the logic in this plan?

Ìý

Sincerely,

John J. Oystryk
