Four of the team of about 20 cross-country runners from Kamsack Comprehensive Institute did particularly well at the Saltcoats Autumn Summit held September 30.
The KCI group was among about 1,000 student runners in grades 5 to 12 from across southern Saskatchewan attending the event, said Darren Kitsch, their coach.
Running a distance of three kilometres, Sadie McGriskin, a Grade 9 student in the midget category, placed seventh, while three other KCI runners placed 11th in their categories: Jordyn Thomas, a Grade 7 student in peewee girls; Curtis McGriskin, Grade 8, in bantam boys, and Kira Kitsch, a Grade 9 student in midget girls.
Cadence Campeau and Petrie Whitehawk did well in their peewee category running two kilometres, Kitsch said.
The team was to compete at the Cherrydale district cross-country competition in Yorkton on October 6, when runners from grades 9 to 12 will be competing for places in the top 10 of their categories. Those runners will qualify to advance to the provincials in Delisle on Saturday.
