A significant wind storm on October 17-18 created a variety of challenges for Canora residents and Town of Canora employees.
According to Environment Canada, wind gusts in Canora reached as high as 85 km/h. The clean-up from the storm kept workers busy through a good part of the day on October 18, said David Wasyliw, town foreman.
Workers driving two, half-ton trucks spent a number of hours cleaning smaller branches and other storm-damaged materials off Canora streets, while a grapple and a three-ton truck were used to look after larger branches and trees.
At the Canora Housing Authority fourplex residence on Centre Avenue West, the wind uprooted two large spruce trees, which took down a power line.
A small metal shed blew across the street from a yard on Parker Crescent.
Tree branches were seen on a number of Canora streets, briefly causing minor obstructions for drivers.
Many buildings lost shingles, creating plenty of work for roofers, who will be looking for nice weather to help with re-shingling projects.
Wasyliw estimated the power outage caused by the storm lasted for about eight to nine hours.
