SASKATOON — Streets and sidewalks will be icy again for the week after a big drop of temperature Saturday night.

The snow melted as temperatures dropped to above 0 degrees Celsius on Saturday with a mix of rain and light snow happening through the evening and into the night.

However, temperatures again dropped in the -20s making the streets and sidewalks icy and slippery on Sunday.

The City is advising motorists to drive carefully and pedestrians to use caution while walking on sidewalks and parking lots.

City crews with sanders will be using de-icing material as needed and then sand as the temperature drops, for traction at high-traffic locations on Circle Drive, freeways and high traffic intersections.

Eighteen sanders spread de-icing materials on Saturday and Sunday, focusing on Saskatoon’s highest traffic streets, bridge decks and intersections.

Please watch for their blue and amber flashing lights and leave room for road equipment to do their work.

Rut shaving in back lanes and on skipped local streets continues during the day through the weekend, with snow removal on priority streets ongoing at night.
