Train collision blocks highway traffic west of Canora

On April 5, a collision between two CN trains blocked traffic on No. 5 highway west of Canora, said a release from the Canora RCMP detachment.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. the Canora RCMP received a report of a head-on collision between the two trains. Upon further investigation it was determined that one train was parked in the CN train yard when a second train travelling at a slow rate of speed collided with the parked train.

The impact from the collision caused several cars to derail while the train was blocking the No. 5 highway crossing approximately two kilometres west of Canora.

Traffic was re-routed around the rail crossing for most of the day.  No injuries were reported from the collision, according to the release.

The investigation has been turned over to the CN Police.
