聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Taking advantage of a beautiful day, the Terry Fox Run was held at the Canora Composite School (CCS) on September 28.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Approximately 240 CCS students and a number of teachers kicked things off by running and walking around the CCS track for about 45 minutes in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. 聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Dustin Nielsen, CCS teacher, said students and staff were encouraged to contribute a loonie, a toonie, or whatever they could to support the cause in helping to find a cure for cancer.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淣o matter who you are, you probably know at least one person, or more than one, who鈥檚 been affected by cancer.鈥�
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Students were asked to research their families and find the names of those individuals. The school gave them stickers which said, 鈥淭erry Fox ran for me, I鈥檓 running for鈥︹�� and each student wrote in the name of the person or people they chose who to run for during the Terry Fox Run.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The CCS Terry Fox Run lasted for about 45 minutes, and then a group of about 200 Canora Junior Elementary School (CJES) students, along with their teachers, arrived at the CCS track for their Terry Fox Run, which also lasted for about 45 minutes.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A number of CCS students, as well as the Canora Cougars mascot, joined the CJES group. The CJES students and teachers were also encouraged to make small donations.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Lindsey Ostafie, CJES teacher, said it鈥檚 educational for the elementary school鈥檚 students to be involved in the event.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t helps them learn about giving back to the community, and it鈥檚 also good for them to learn about Canadian heroes. Terry Fox was definitely a hero.鈥�
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 After each Terry Fox Run, the students were treated to water and fruit provided by Leson鈥檚 Funeral Home and Crossroads Credit Union.聽聽
