聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Winding up their season of less than four months, members of the Heart and Home Quilting Club at Kamsack were pleased to learn that in the past three years they have been responsible for the creation of nearly 50 quilts that are being donated to cancer patients.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In addition to making their own quilts and pillowcases, members make quilt covers that are taken by Bobbi Wanner of Madge Lake. Wanner sews the covers over batting and backing in order to complete the quilts and then they are sent to Victoria鈥檚 Quilts, an organization that provides comforting quilts for cancer patients.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The club, which assembles in September, ended its 2016 season last week with members displaying what they had created and discussing one another鈥檚 work.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭his was one of our best seasons ever,鈥 said Colleen Koroluk. 鈥淲e made 23 quilt covers this season.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 If material is left over from making a quilt, a matching cover is made for it, and sent along with the quilt, Koroluk explained.
Added to the quilts made by members the previous two years means that a total of 46 quilts have been donated by the club to Victoria鈥檚 Quilts.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淎 lot of our fabrics are donated,鈥 Koroluk said, explaining that beginners, who will learn the basics of how to cut, sew and bind the quilts, will be welcome to join the club come September.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Members meet at the Westminster Memorial Church lower hall.
鈥淚t doesn't matter how old or how young we are, together, we share a common love of quilting,鈥 said Denise Hellegards. 鈥淒oing something nice to bring comfort to those who are battling cancer is rewarding and it is our hope that those recipients will find warmth and a smile from one of our works of love.鈥
