聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 A former Kamsack resident is a recipient of a Western Canadian Music Award, which 鈥渃elebrates the best in Western Canadian talent.鈥�
Craig Aikman, the son of Rick and Susan Aikman of Kamsack, is a member of the Calgary-based group The Northern Beauties. He and the band were profiled twice in the Kamsack Times recently, prior to the band鈥檚 trip to Europe in September, and upon its return.
At an awards ceremony on October 15 at Casino Regina, it was announced that The Northern Beauties was the recipient of the award for the Best Roots Duo or Group of the Year.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Members of the band were in Regina for the awards presentation and on his Facebook page, Aikman posted a photo of the award displayed on the dashboard of a vehicle and said: 鈥淐oming home with one of these. Wow!
鈥淭his award is a tribute to so many incredible individuals who have, and continue to devote and donate their time, creativity, love and passion,鈥� Aikman鈥檚 post said. 鈥淲e are so grateful. Thank you

The 14th annual awards show and concert 鈥渋s the flagship event of BreakOut West and a celebration of all the aspects of western Canadian music,鈥� said information on its website. This year鈥檚 event was to have two main headliners: Brett Kissel, the host of the event, and Regina鈥檚 own Colin James, who not only headlined the show, but was also this year鈥檚 Hall of Fame Inductee.
Nominated in the Roots Duo/Group of the Year with The Northern Beauties were: Crooked Brothers and Sweet Alibi of Manitoba, Jon and Roy of British Columbia, and Rosie and The Riveters from Saskatchewan.
