When Porter Wolkowski of Canora sold his 4-H steer to Logan Stevens Equipment of Yorkton at the Yorkton 4-H Regional Show and Sale on July 5, instead of keeping all the money for his own use, he decided to use a portion of it to support a cause that is very meaningful to him.

Wolkowski is a member of the Good Spirit 4-H Club of Canora, and in keeping with the 4-H pledge of ‘my club, my community, my country’, Wolkowski donated $500 to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation in Saskatoon. The donation will go to support all children in need of the hospital’s services, including Wolkowski’s two cousins from Invermay.

One of the cousins, Preston Graham, has been making regular trips to the Edmonton Children’s Hospital for medical attention. His family hopes to utilize the new children’s hospital in Saskatoon when it opens in 2019. Construction is 66 per cent completed.

The other cousin, Mikayla Babichuk, has been a diabetic for approximately eight years.             Wolkowski’s donation will go toward helping children receive the best health care possible.

His donation will also support Chase Kraynick Pay It Forward, which is very important to Wolkowski.

His mother Carmen said she is very proud of her son and that “he has always had a big heart.”
