For the first time, Tim Hortons Camp Day festivities were held at the Tim Hortons outlet in Canora on June 6.
Elizabeth Stefaniszyn, manager, said Canora and area residents have been very supportive of the Canora outlet, and she wanted to show support back to the community.
鈥淥ur customers have big hearts and we wanted to give them the opportunity to be involved in a worthy cause like this,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t also gives the kids something where they can be active and have fun.鈥
RCMP Cst. Ryan Coleman and Terry Dennis, Canora-Pelly MLA, supported the event by joining the Tim Hortons work force during the day.
The day鈥檚 activities involved face painting, balloon popping, a snack table that included smores, and a silent auction.
Stefaniszyn said on Camp Day, the money raised at Tim Hortons outlets across Canada is used to send underprivileged kids to one of seven participating camps across Canada, including camps located in Kananaskis, Alta. and Pinawa, Man.
On Camp Day, 100 per cent of proceeds of hot coffee sales at participating outlets across Canada are donated to the Tim Horton Children鈥檚 Foundation (THCF) and will go toward giving youth from low-income families a life-changing experience, allowing them to think differently about themselves and their future opportunities, according to information from Tim Hortons.
Attending a Tim Hortons camp comes at no cost to the children or their families, said the information. The Foundation uses repeated camp experiences to help youth develop the skills they need to become resourceful, responsible and empowered individuals to build a brighter future for themselves.
At the end of the day on June 6, $831 was raised at the Tim Hortons in Canora. Stefaniszyn was pleased with this result for the first Camp Day celebration in Canora.
