聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 From January 22 -26, churches in Canora observed the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Hosted by the Canora Ministerial Association, this is an international time of ecumenical (involving multiple Christian churches) fellowship and prayer first introduced worldwide by the Graymoor Ecumenical and Interreligious Institute, said Rev. Brett Watson, chair of the Canora Ministerial Association.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚n communities all over the world believers from the various churches gather together over the week to break bread and pray together,鈥 said Watson.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 For this year the theme was, 鈥淵our right hand, O Lord, glorious in power,鈥 (Exodus 15:4). The churches of the Caribbean were a target of prayer support, he said.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Similar to previous years, the Canora Ministerial invited the various churches in the community to host a noon soup luncheon and prayer devotional from noon to 1 p.m. each of the five days from January 22 to January 26.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The churches taking part this year in order, were: Good Spirit Community Church, Parkland Christian Centre, St. Joseph鈥檚 Roman Catholic Church, St. Andrew鈥檚 United Church and Gateway Community Church, said Watson.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e had a wonderful time enjoying all the interesting soups and borscht that people have made, and the fellowship and prayer together. The luncheons were advertised, free of charge and open to anyone who wished to attend.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Watson was pleased to report strong attendance, with an average of over 30 people at each luncheon, no doubt aided by the relatively mild weather during the week.
