聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Students of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute began their month-long fundraiser on the weekend, selling magazine subscriptions to support student activities.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Many schools across Saskatchewan participate in such a magazine fundraiser, said information from the school. This fundraiser has been very successful for many years at KCI.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e are proud to have a fundraiser that promotes literacy which is one of the goals of the Good Spirit School Division,鈥 the information said. The magazines are available at a cost less than one would pay to buy them off the counter at a store.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Last year about $15,000 in subscriptions were sold by the students, and this year, as an incentive, a student will be dyeing her hair blue. If sales total $13,000, the staff will be lip syncing a performance during an assembly. If sales reach $16,000, students will be treated to supper with a dance to music by a DJ.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Money raised in the program goes to support student activities.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e are a small school, but have many activities to offer our students,鈥 said information from organizers of the campaign. Athletics, activities, groups, a school-wide holiday diner, the occasional treat for all after an event, community building activities, assemblies, awards, student leadership programs and motivational speakers for our students all receive funding through this fundraiser.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e ae able to keep these activities through your continued support,鈥 it said. 鈥淲e all know the costs of everything have gone up and fundraising is what keeps schools across Saskatchewan alive and vibrant with student recognition and student activities.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淪tudents need activities to compliment academics. Participation in those activities make them well-rounded students and good citizens of our school community.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 For every subscription sold, students will receive on draw for a television. In addition there will be a draw for $50 for each grade and one student in each grade will have the opportunity to win the draw.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淩eading at home makes a difference,鈥 the information said. 鈥淜ids need to see the adults in their lives reading. Encourage a life-long passion for reading in your students. Buy yourself and your student a magazine, or buy one to read together.鈥
