聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Plans for an IP hockey team, a 4-H riding clinic and walking in the Communiplex were among items discussed by members of the Norquay Recreation Board during its meeting of October 17.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Discussing minor hockey, Nicole Korpusik said that plans were in the works for an IP (initiation program) team, but no dates had been set by the time of the meeting.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Regarding the Tail Twisters 4-H Club, Ruth Demetrick said that members had served hotdogs at the Norquay Co-op customer appreciation day on October 14 and she extended a thank-you to everyone who attended thereby supporting the 4-H club. She said that the group was to have a riding clinic at Naclia鈥檚 arena on October 22.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淧rojects that we will offer this year are light horse, archery and trapping,鈥� Demetrick said, adding that the group鈥檚 executive committee would be selected at a subsequent meeting.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 This time of year walking outside is not to everyone鈥檚 liking, Laura Dahl said as she talked about the community鈥檚 Walking Club. She said that she is able to open the Communiplex at any time to suit anyone鈥檚 preference of a walking time.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Regarding the Communiplex Management Board, Demetrick said that it was agreed to take advantage of the Co-op paint promotion.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Discussing curling, Vaughan Demetrick said that the first wing night was to have been held on November 4. The club鈥檚 annual meeting was to have been held on October 19, and the group was also to be taking advantage of the Co-op paint promotion.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 At Norquay School, Stacey Rubletz said that a number of students had placed in the top 10 of their categories in provincial cross-country competitions; the junior volleyball team played in Preeceville October 28; a pancake breakfast was served October 19; the senior girls volleyball tournament was held October 21 and 22, and 10 students plus staff members were to attend the Students Against Drinking and Driving (SADD) conference.聽 Students are selling magazine subscriptions.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Discussing the library, Ken Newell said that Library Week was to be observed October 18 to 20 and a 鈥淩hyme Time鈥� was to be held October 20.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 He also said that due to the weather, the town鈥檚 lagoon project was placed 鈥渙n hold鈥� until next spring.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The annual Malanka event will be held by the Ukrainian Dance Club on January 14, Heather Reine said, adding that a bottle drive was to be held October 20.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Norquay branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is back from its summer recess with potluck suppers and entertainment the last Friday of the month, Laura Dahl said. Dianne Prekaski provided the entertainment at the September get-together.
The Legion is holding a raffle with the first prize being an iPad; second prize, a $50 gift certificate, and 3rd prize, a $25 gift certificate. Tickets are available at Norquay stores and from Legion members. The draw is to be made before Christmas.
Regarding the playschool, Emma Owen said that the young students are settling into routine very well.
The group鈥檚 first fundraiser ended October 18, she said. 鈥淚n November we will be offering a second class on Thursday mornings for four-year-old students to be taught by Maggie Lukey.
The students made their first visit to the lodge on October 4,鈥� she said. 鈥淚t went very well and was enjoyed by both lodge residents and the four-year-old students.鈥�
Figure skating registration went well, Melissa Czornobay said. 鈥淲e will be doing some fundraising so, see a skating member to get your beef jerky or skate lotto tickets. The lottery grand prize is $30,000.鈥�
The Timberline Band Association has the students selling chocolates and fruit to raise funds, Reagan Foster said. 聽The senior band was to play at the Remembrance Day service in Preeceville and senior band members have the opportunity to attend the Cirque Musica Holiday Spectacular in Regina on November 29.
Regarding the Norquay Nighthawks, Nicole Korpusik said that Friday nights are shinny nights, and that the team held its first meeting on October 13.
