A Yorkton business has been ranked in the SaskBusiness Top 100 list for 2017.

The Yorkton Co-op was placed 71st in the collection of top businesses in Saskatchewan.

Last year they ranked 65th.

鈥淚t鈥檚 nice,鈥 said Bruce Thurston, general manager for the co-op. 鈥淭here鈥檚 always room to grow.鈥

The Top 100 list ranks the largest companies in the province. It judges private and government-run businesses alike. Several co-ops made the cut. The Federated Co-operatives Limited came in first place.

A total of 19 co-ops were placed in the Top 100. In 2016, they had a combined total of $2.3 billion in sales.

鈥淲e see other businesses growing and we鈥檇 like to grow along with them,鈥 Thurston said.

The Yorkton Co-op has been in operation for 77 years. It is comprised of over 19,000 members. It has food stores, agro centres, and gas stations across Yorkton, Kamsack, Ebenezer, and Theodore.

The co-op has been ranked in the Top 100 for several years. Thurston said they have a simple formula for success.

鈥淭he biggest key is people,鈥 he said. 鈥淲hen you have the right people in place, things happen.

鈥淲ithout them, we鈥檙e just another business.鈥

Thurston would like to rank higher in the Top 100 next year.

鈥淲e always have a plan for ranking higher,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a matter of whether or not it happens.

鈥淵ou just have to stay ahead of your competition.鈥
