The final round of the SnoRiders West magazine Sledtown Showdown competition has begun and Yorkton is still standing.
Voting is now open pitting Yorkton against Houston B.C. for the title of Sledtown 2016.
The competition to name the 2016 snowmobile destination of the year began ten weeks ago with 64 towns, 16 from each of the four western provinces.
Yorkton beat out Candle Lake, North Battleford, Hudson Bay and finally Nipawin (with 73 per cent of the vote) to become the Saskatchewan provincial champion.
In the semifinal round Yorkton faced off against Alberta champ Athabaska while Houston took on last year鈥檚 overall champion and this year鈥檚 Manitoba champ, Swan Valley.
鈥淭his is fantastic news for Yorkton and Saskatchewan,鈥 said Jason Popowich, president of Snoriders Yorkton.
Randy Goulden, executive director of Tourism Yorkton, believes it is extremely important to Yorkton.
鈥淏eing named provincial champion was excellent but this elevates us to the next level of snowmobiling,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e pretty excited about this.鈥
The local SnoRiders club is busy now trying to get the vote out to go after the title, which will be decided January 10.
Popowich said voting is open to everyone through the SnoRiders West website snoriderswest.com/sledtown_showdown.
People can also vote directly on the Snoriders Yorkton Facebook page.
