A much-needed clothing chairty event is making its return to Yorkton after a long absence.

The Coats for Kids project started up again on Oct. 16. It has been on a hiatus for nearly seven years.

鈥淲e had done the project for 18 years in [Yorkton],鈥 said Deborah Schmidt, Chair of Coats for Kids. 鈥淐ommunity requests [brought] it back.鈥

Coats for Kids collects winter clothing through donations. The group accepts everything from jackets to toques to snowpants. They ask families to give outgrown clothes to kids in need.

Schmidt says snowpants are one of the most needed articles of clothes.

鈥淚f kids don鈥檛 have them, they can鈥檛 play outside,鈥 she said.

Coats for Kids will be collecting snow gear for the next two weeks before redistributing them on Oct. 28 at Yorkdale Central School.

Several groups across Yorkton are sponsoring the event, including Magic Mirrors, Century 21, Mark鈥檚, and MEEP Creative Agency.

鈥淚 think what they鈥檙e doing is phenomenal,鈥 said Kelly Litzenberger, Creative Director with MEEP. 鈥淗elping out in any way we can was a no brainer.鈥

Anyone interested in donating clothes can visit one of the three collection depots: Yorkdale Central School, Century 21, or Magic Mirrors.
