Yorkton-Melville MP Cathay Wagantall wanted more specifics in the recently delivered Speech from the Throne. In a release, Wagantall said that she wanted to see more substance from the new Liberal government.

鈥淪imply put, the Speech from the Throne was as short in length as it was on substance, especially on issues of importance to my constituency, and I am very apprehensive about Prime Minister Trudeau鈥檚 path for our future,鈥 Wagantall said in a release.

The speech itself was focused on having an open and accountable government, tax cuts for the middle class, building an environmentally friendly economy, working to promote diversity and providing better security and opportunity.

The MP was disappointed to see no mentions of agriculture, mining and forestry. She also objects to a lack of information on a plan for seniors, though there is a mention of increased pension support.

She also expressed concern about how the government will pay for their plans.

鈥淕reatly increased federal debt 鈥 is the only promise we are sure of 鈥 and even that the Liberal government has failed to define or cap. This government says it will lift Canada out of debt and balance the books in 2019. The only things this federal debt can guarantee are higher taxes for today鈥檚 families and a higher debt burden left for our young people and their future children.鈥

In her capacity as the Deputy Critic for Veterans Affairs, Wagantall said that she wants to see a clear indication of where the department is going and what their priorities are actually going to be.

鈥淎s Deputy Critic for Veterans Affairs, I was pleased to hear that the government will 鈥榙o more鈥 to support Veterans and their families. However, this single sentence in the Throne Speech gives no indication as to which of the 15 Liberal campaign promises made to Canada鈥檚 Veterans will be brought before the House or, in fact, made a government priority,鈥 said Wagantall.
