Is learning a learned behaviour?
Students and staff at Yorkdale Central School had an opportunity last week to see and participate in a presentation by Andre Genthon, which he calls 鈥淭he Canada Goal.鈥
For elementary students, 鈥渢he main approach is to draw close attention to key words that relate to the healthy development of an individual as they grow,鈥 Genthon says.
He does that by creating a fun and energetic event that uses audio-visual technology and games to reinforce learning behaviours.
鈥淭eaching learners how to learn is a critical pillar to equip them with the tools to make the most of their day(s),鈥 his website states. 鈥淗owever, it appears that the desire is equally important if not more of a significant factor at the root of one鈥檚 ability to learn. Therefore, another main approach within The Canada Goal is to draw closer attention to self-awareness, character development, success and self-discipline.鈥
Yorkdale vice principal Noel Budz said it was a valuable presentation.
鈥淲e鈥檙e always focussing on self-discipline and focus,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 usually the difference in people who succeed in achieving their goals. That鈥檚 what [Andre鈥檚] entire presentation was about. It was very good.鈥
Genthon currently tours western Canada with a goal to expand across the country in the future.
