On June 6, the second day of the University of Regina鈥檚 2019 Spring Convocation, Renu Kapoor will be presented with Honorary Doctor of Laws honoris causa (LLD,) and Eric Peterson will be presented with Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts honoris causa (DFA) the highest honours the University can grant.听

鈥淚t is the biggest surprise of my life, and I feel deeply humbled by this honour,鈥� Kapoor said about receiving the honorary degree. 鈥�Regina has enriched my and my family鈥檚 life so much, and I believe in giving back to this community.鈥�

Kapoor鈥檚 volunteer activities include working with organizations such as Cultural Connections Regina, Community Foundations of Canada, Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and Addiction, 麻豆视频 Saskatchewan Community Foundation, Community Foundations of Canada, SaskCulture, Regina Public Library, Regina Airport Authority. She has been recognized for her volunteer work with the Sovereign鈥檚 Medal for Volunteers and Queen Elizabeth II鈥檚 Diamond Jubilee Medal, University of Regina President鈥檚 Community Award, YWCA Lifetime Achievement Award and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal, among many others.

鈥淚t鈥檚 difficult for me to describe - it鈥檚 a big deal鈥� said Peterson about receiving the honorary degree. 鈥淚 hope it shows young people that they don鈥檛 have to leave to achieve success, that being a cultural worker is not just something done by other people in other places.鈥�

Peterson, was born and grew up in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. He has established a distinguished 50-year stage, screen and voice acting career that includes the play Billy Bishop Goes to War. He has performed on stage in countless theatres across Canada, at international festivals, at London鈥檚 West End and on Broadway and in several TV series. He is perhaps best known for his role as Oscar Leroy in the TV series Corner Gas. Peterson is a passionate supporter of the arts and their ability to illustrate what life in Canada and being Canadian is like.
