While Yorkton is still in the grip of winter, local planters got a head start on their gardening and farming plans at the annual Seedy Saturday event over the weekend at the Victory Church.
Seedy Saturday was a chance for shoppers to find new seeds for their gardens, along with vegetables, cookbooks, jams, and assorted fresh ingredients.
People could buy garlic flakes, tomatoes, green beans, and a wide variety of agricultural delights. There was also a brief seminar on bees and the benefits of pollination.
Stephanie Bodnaryk sold bags of beans and seeds at the event. Three years ago she had an excess amount of beans, so she sold them at the outdoor market. She enjoyed it so much she decided to attend Seedy Saturday.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just a wonderful event,鈥� she said. 鈥淭he people are really friendly.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just a good, down-to-earth occasion.鈥�
Of all the products at her table, Bodnaryk highlighted the flax and wheat seeds.
鈥淭hey鈥檙e staples in this area,鈥� she said. 鈥淧eople use them for everything, but there鈥檚 so much more to learn.鈥�
