A World Catholic Education Day Solidarity Walk was held in Yorkyon today (Thursday).
The day saw students from schools in the Christ the TeacherCatholic School Division walk to Western Financial Group City Centre Park in the city tomark World Catholic Education Day. Bishop Bryan Bayda was in attendance for the event.
In a release regarding the local walk it was noted;
鈥淣ever have so many people fled war, persecution, natural disasters, extreme poverty, and development megaprojects.聽 Every minute, 31 people are forced to flee their homes.聽 In solidarity with the 68.5 million children, women, and men who have been forced to flee their homes, help us walk 40, 075 km, the equivalent of the Earth鈥檚 circumference, by August 31, 2019.聽 Every step you take will send a strong message to the Canadian government that it must do more to end forced migration around the world.鈥
The Yorkton gathering was part of that effort.
鈥溾嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧婽he emphasis is more on the journey -- the walk, than on the time at the park,鈥 noted the release from Deanna Pellatt, Religious Education Consultant, Christ the Teacher Catholic Schools.聽鈥淲e will however open and close with prayer, and hear from some guest speakers.鈥
Sacred Heart is focusing on the Me to We Walk for Water campaign more so than on the D&P Share the Journey; nonetheless, they both work with the theme of the day 鈥撀燡ourneying Together in Faith.聽 They are both about walking in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
