The Parkland Regional Library has added another online service available to patrons with a Yorkton or Parkland library card.

Indieflix is a subscription service for libraries that features movies from major festival such as Sundance, shorts, documentaries and other works not available from other sites such as Hoopla.

Hoopla, also a service offered by the Parkland Library, features more of a mainstream lineup and has been extremely popular with library patrons, said Helen McCutcheon, Parkland鈥檚 chief librarian.

She became aware of the service at an annual library convention she attends in Toronto and felt it was a complement to Hoopla and other current online offerings such as Freading (eBooks), Freegal (music) and Zinio (magazines).

鈥淭hey鈥檝e just taken off,鈥 McCutcheon said. 鈥淲ith the music it鈥檚 just been unbelievable.鈥

She thinks Indieflix will be just as popular.

鈥淚鈥檓 expecting to see the same usage as the other services,鈥 she said, adding there are some advantages to it such as unlimited downloads so anybody who wants to see a film can, regardless of how many other people may already be watching it.

Anybody with a library card can create a free Indieflix account by visiting parklandlibrary.ca and logging in.
