Serious controversy among the council of the day regarding the construction of the Town Hall resulted in Mayor Collacott鈥檚 resignation along with 4 councillors. Finally, the work was contracted to J.W. Christie, who employed J.P. Logan, William Black, O.B. Smith and H. Neilson: names remembered to this day in the history of Yorkton鈥檚 construction industry. In 1928, when Yorkton reached city status, it then became 鈥淐ity Hall.鈥 In this photo, there is one gas street light 鈥 these were at the time the latest in lightening technology.

The building was torn down in 1961 to make way for the construction of the Saskatchewan Cooperative Association store. The former Dominion Government building across the street where the City Hall Park is located today and always referred to as the Post Office,聽 became the new City Hall.
