The tenth annual GX94 and FOX FM Airwaves for Health Radiothon was a huge success raising $71,689. The annual radiothon was held April 25th and 26th, with both radio stations broadcasting live from the Regional Hospital in Yorkton.聽 Harvard Broadcasting covers all of the costs of the radiothon so that 100% of the donations that are made can go toward the purchase of medical equipment.
鈥淎n important element of the radiothon is that it reaches all of the communities and towns that use the regional health centre in Yorkton, and because of that the radiothon is a truly regional fundraising event, with people and businesses from all over east central Saskatchewan and western Manitoba making contributions,鈥 continued Ms. Norton.
鈥淭he Airwaves for Health Radiothon introduced our campaign raising funds to upgrade monitoring equipment used by the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the regional hospital. We had 17 nurses and technicians talk on the radio to explain the purpose of the equipment and why it is needed,鈥 said Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation.
There were also eighteen (18) businesses or organizations that made contributions of $1,000 or more who participated in interviews and on air discussions explaining why they were making a donation and why they support the work of the Foundation. As well, 135 individuals either phoned in a donation or came to the hospital to make a donation.
鈥淭his event has become very important to The Health Foundation鈥 said Mr. Fisher. 鈥淣ot only does the radiothon raise a significant amount of money, it also reaches a huge amount of people creating tremendous public awareness regarding the work of The Health Foundation.
