Yorkton鈥檚 ReStore has been open for just over 7 months and the staff and management committee are pleased with the public鈥檚 support.聽 鈥淭he public has been very generous with its donations of quality new or gently used building supplies, furniture and appliances,鈥� said Doug Kitsch, Co-Chair of the Management Committee.聽 鈥淎ll the profit from the sale of these items is turned back into the community for the next Habitat for Humanity home build.鈥�
ReStore Yorkton is located at 180 Ball Road, just north of the Sask Abilities Centre.
Merv Catchuk, Manager of ReStore Yorkton indicated there are two ways in which the public can donate to ReStore. 鈥淭he staff and volunteers can collect donations or we can accept donations during store hours,鈥� he said. Yorkton鈥檚 ReStore is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.聽 As the ReStore does not have a collection box, Catchuk asks that the public not drop off items after hours. 鈥淚tems left outside ReStore, especially over a weekend, usually end up damaged and unsalable,鈥� said Catchuk. 鈥淚f those items end up in the dump, it defeats the whole purpose of the donation.鈥�
The Habitat ReStore model accepts donated building materials and other products and then resells them with the net proceeds being reinvested in Yorkton by building homes for qualified individuals.
ReStore Yorkton is unique in that through a partnership with Yorkton Transitional Homes for Youth and the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, training and eventually, employment opportunities, will be聽 created.
